In 1862, the Homestead Act influenced the design of America’s log cabins. The Homestead Act gave homesteaders the rights to open land, but in order to receive said land, they had to cultivate it and build homes at least 10 by 12 feet in size, with at least one glass window. Many people built log cabins, and hundreds of years later, the population of the United States is over 313 million people.
