Did you know that even blind people, who have never seen a human smile before, will still smile? We all smile as a natural human reaction, and every smile is different. In fact, your smile is as unique as your fingerprint.

For various reasons, sometimes we do not have the smile we wish we had. Teeth can fall out, requiring a dental implant of some kind. Or maybe our smiles are not as white as we would like them to be. Whatever your situation is, here are four facts to ponder before you make an appointment.

    1. Approximately $1.4 billion is spent by Americans every year on ways to make their teeth shine brighter and whiter. You can get over-the-counter whitening remedies at a drugstore or pharmacy, but these results often take longer to appear. Getting a dental implant will not be necessary, though, as the best dentist can perform a whitening procedure where the results are almost instantaneous.

    2. Data suggests that two-thirds of all the people who seek cosmetic dentistry procedures are female. This statistic comes from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry based out of Madison, Wisconsin. Whether it is getting a dental implant, Invisalign braces, a porcelain crown or full surgery, patients can elect to undergo orthodontic treatment for purely aesthetic purposes and not because of any health risk.

    3. If you are under 35 and have missing teeth, chances are you lost them in a fight, a sports game or some kind of accident. Having a dental implant put in can easily offset the damages incurred from these accidental situations. Plus, any dental implant comes in a healthy shade of white!

    4. Replacing your teeth is easy. Putting in dentures, a removable dental implant of one or more fake teeth, has become commonplace for elderly people and those who have lost teeth due to disease or accidents. Dentures have, in the past, been created from animal teeth, ivory and porcelain. Today they are made from acrylic resin.

Remember that your smile is who you are. Show it off and brighten up the world! And do not forget to take good care of it. Read more.

Those white strips you buy at the store are just no good. If you are serious about whitening up your chompers, go to your real dentist.
